Garrafadas
As garrafadas são combinações de plantas medicinais de uso tradicional, preparadas com bebidas alcoólicas, sendo o vinho a mais utilizada, podendo-se, ainda, utilizar mel, vinagre ou água como veículos. Essas preparações, amplamente difundidas entre a população, são utilizadas para tratar diversas enfermidades. São geralmente administradas por via oral, mas é possível também encontrar garrafadas para administração por via tópica e inalatória. As garrafadas constituem soluções extrativas compostas por uma variedade de espécies vegetais em um líquido extrator de suas propriedades curativas, geralmente hidro alcoólico. A Garrafada é definida como uma fórmula medicinal preparada com componentes de origem vegetal, mineral e animal.
As partes de vegetais podem ser cascas, frutos, folhas, raízes ou flores, secas ou frescas. O produto da mistura fica em maceração por, no mínimo, três dias. Muitos raizeiros, curadores e benzedeiras têm por prática enterrar a garrafada preparada.
Os raizeiros, como são chamados os fabricantes de garrafadas, estão presentes praticamente em todas as cidades brasileiras. Nas capitais eles podem ser facilmente encontrados nos mercados. Um dos mercados mais tradicionais do Brasil na comercialização de garrafadas é o mercado do Ver-O-Peso de Belém do Pará
